SLAVERY on the football pitch! Some players from Hwange Football Club have gone for two and up to four years without pay.
In the 2016 season Hwange FC, fondly known as Chipangano, has so far posted six wins and six draws with their latest match being a nil-all draw against CAPS United.
MakepekepeA players interestingly made the long trip to the coal mining town after a day of high drama, as they demanded their outstanding salaries and winning bonuses.
Player sources at Hwange told B-Metro Sport that for a win they get a winning bonus of $220 each and for a draw each player gets $100 a that money hardly ever comes. This season alone no cent has been paid to any player.
a?We are yet to get our seasonas winning bonuses and each player is owed about $2 000,a? said one of the players on condition of anonymity.
Itas worse when it comes to salaries.
a?The club has a massive salary back log. Some have not received their salaries for the past four years. Others have never been to the bank for the past three years or so.a?
Another impeccable source added that the Hwange players, who had a standoff with the clubas executive members before their game against CAPS United last Sunday demanding their dues live on paltry camping allowances.
a?Each player gets a camping allowance of $10 per night,a? said the source.
On average the team camps for two nights, one night before a match and another after playing away from Hwange as the team is not allowed to travel at night after away fixtures.
Contacted for comment club chairman Joseph Zulu could neither deny nor confirm the alleged developments.
