ZIFA Southern Region Division One champions, Hwange, will next week Tuesday hold its end of year awards to honour some of its outstanding players during the just ended season.
The ceremony will be held at the majestic Hwange Golf Club where winning players be awarded prizes and other forms of due recognition for their sweat which has turned into sweet by winning the sole ticket to the Premier Soccer League.
According to the company’s corporate affairs manager, Rugare Dobbie, there will be eight categories on offer namely Golden Boot (top goal scorer), Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year, Rookie Player of the Year, Most Disciplined Player, Most Consistent Player and President’s Award (longest unbroken service to the Club) while the 12th player (the supporters) are also not left out as there is an award for the Most Colourful Supporter.
“The ceremony is more special in the fact that the team has won promotion back to the nation’s elite league after only a season in the lower tier league,” said Dobhie.
The club last held an awards ceremony in honour of its players almost a decade ago in 2010 and the move by company management to revive the awards is a clear message of its commitment to supporting the club in their PSL journey.
“As the club holds this awards ceremony which were last held in 2010, the company reiterates its maximum support to the team on the financial and other material resources perspective as the brand is the organisation’s corporate social responsibility initiative on the sporting front.
The team’s hierarchy takes pride in the achievements by the technical bench led by former player and current head coach Nation Dube and all the players who did duty during this 2018 season,” said Dobbie.
The organising committee for the awards ceremony is still working on the guest of honour for the function.
Expected to grace the momentous event are traditional leaders who the company has continously and persistently maintained a close relationship with, former players, members of the supporters’ club as well as the business community.
