Hwange for the first time, hosts the Jibilika Dance festival Matabeleland North provincial preliminary competitions at the Lwendulu Old Ground on Saturday.
The town’s Urban Arts Association chairman Malvern Daka said everything was in place for the big day.
“We’re excited to host this festival in conjunction with the Jibilika Dance Trust for the first time in nine years,” Daka said.
The Jibilika Dance festival celebrates both urban and cultural dances. “The festival encourages various dance cultures with the thrust of enhancing cultural appreciation, growth, employment creation and youth engagement,” said Daka.
The competition is expected to kick off at 11AM with morer than 20 groups drawn from the province expected to participate.
Some of the groups are Vulindlela Theatre group, Kasi Generals, Sleekstar, Bboy and Chariz Bee and Abatsha Dance Group from Victoria Falls.
The group which will come out tops will represent the Matabeleland North province at the national finals taking place in Mutare on August 26 and 27.
Entertainment will be provided by Marasha Moto Express Band, Shantani Afro Jazz Band and Lwendulu Primary School comedy trio Chichinana.
Meanwhile, the Chibuku Take 2 consumers and traders promotion provincial finals will also be held on Saturday at the Jabulani Tavern’s Social Club, starting at midday. $1,350 will be given away with the first prize being $1,000, second prize $200, and third prize $100. A $50 consolation prize has also been set aside. The promotion running under the “Share a Super with a brother” theme started on May 14 and will end on July 31.
The grand final will be in Harare on August 13.
