THE Hwange local board has issued a stern warning to pig farmers operating within its jurisdiction to cease their activities immediately.
The warning comes as a response to concerns regarding the presence of stray pigs.
In a statement released by the Hwange Local Board, it has been made clear that pig farming is not permitted within the designated zones of the town.
The board emphasised that farmers must adhere to the regulations set forth to ensure the health and well-being of the community.
“Council with the assistance of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, will soon destroy all stray pigs seen roaming in its area of jurisdiction in adherence with its Resolution HLG/SB/05/24 of 14 May 2024,” said the local boards acting Town Clerk Mr Paulos Mabhureni.
He said keeping of livestock such as pigs, goats, donkeys and cattle is in contravention with Hwange Local Board (Empumalanga Local Government Area) By-Law, 1982 (General restrictions on keeping of animals).
“Please note that, as a development control authority, council is mandated to regulate and control such (livestock movement) activities and in so doing, it is guided by the State legislation and its own by-laws,” said Mr Mabhureni.
He urged pig farmers to comply with the regulations in place or relocate their animals to areas where pig farming is permissible.
