TWO serial armed robbers who had been terrorising Gweru residents have been sentenced to a total of 70 years in prison.
Five years of the sentence was suspended on condition of good behaviour and will now serve an effective 65 years each.
Tobias Chidavaenzi (54) and Leonard Muzenda (24) were tried and convicted of nine counts of armed robbery.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Chidavaenzi and Muzenda committed a series of robberies at various business centres around Chiredzi between January 9 and 25 February this year.
“Armed with a Revolver Taurus pistol, they terrorised shop owners targeting cash, cellphones, groceries and household property.”
A police investigation led to the arrest of the accused persons and the recovery of the firearm used to commit the crimes.
