Dates for the annual Hwange Open golf tournament are now set and the event will tee off at Hwange Golf Club on October 2. The event will be held under the Zambezi Tour and is one of the few left on the professional calendar with the season coming to an end.

Last year, the tournament was won by Musiwalo Nethunzwi of Modderfontein Golf Club in South Africa.

Nethunzwi was pushed all the way by Bulawayo Golf Club professional Brian Gondo with the battle spilling into a sudden death play-off.

Gondo had come into the event as the defending champion after winning the 2013 tournament at the same venue.

In a statement, Zambezi Tour marketing and communications director Tendai Gwatiringa said the event will be on next month.

“On behalf of the Board and Management of the Zambezi Tour, I am pleased to advise that the Zambezi Tour will be hosting the 2015 Hwange Open,” said Gwatiringa.

“The event will be held in the mining town of Hwange from October 2-4 and has a prize fund of $15 000. The format of the game will be strokeplay over three rounds for a total 54 holes.”

Hwange Colliery Company are the sponsors of the annual event which will see over 150 professional and amateur golfers taking part.

Ryan Cairns, who is playing well on the Sunshine Tour, remains the one to beat with the likes of Nyasha Muyambo, Ignatius Mketeteke and Tongo Charamba also likely to feature prominently.
