ZIMBABWE’S young female motocross rider Tanya Muzinda is appealing for assistance to attend the Zimbabwe International Women’s Awards in Birmingham, UK, on October 3. She was awarded the Sportswoman of the Year award.
The 11-year-old Muzinda was nominated for the ZIWA Sportswoman of the Year award alongside long-distance runners Rutendo Nyahora and Sharon Tavengwa, golfer Yolanda Mubaiwa and Teurai Chanakira.
The ZIWA awards were founded in 2013 to celebrate and recognise women who have contributed to the community in various sectors, including sport.
Muzinda’s father, Tawanda, yesterday said the young rider was set to receive her award on October 3 in England and they were hoping to leave on Thursday.
He said they need $15 000 to cater for all the expenses for the trip.
Tawanda said so far mobile company Econet have come on board to assist in raising the money.
“Tanya was awarded the Sportswoman of the Year award in UK but we don’t have money for the trip, so we are appealing to the public to help her to travel with her team. So far Econet has come on board and donated an sms platform to encourage people to assist Tanya. They have a biller code for Team Tanya and people can donate any amount they want.”
