A 35-year-old Hwange resident is in police custody after being found with 25 metres of aerial copper cable at his home.

Matabeleland North Assistant Provincial Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Loveness Ndlovu, confirmed the arrest of Godfrey Ndlovu, averring that he failed to provide satisfactory evidence explaining how he obtained the cables.

“Police in Hwange arrested the accused, Godfrey Ndlovu (35), at his residence after he was found with 25 metres of aerial cable,” she said.
Assistant Inspector Ndlovu explained that the arrest followed a tip-off from concerned residents.

“A search was conducted at the accused’s home, leading to the recovery of 25 metres of aerial copper cable hidden in his bedroom. The accused failed to give a satisfactory account for his possession of the copper,” she said.

She also urged members of the public to continue assisting the police by reporting anyone suspected of stealing or unlawfully possessing copper cables, describing such offences as a serious threat to infrastructure development.

“As police, we continue to urge citizens to report people found in possession of copper to their nearest police stations,” she added.
