Hwange, Talen Vision clash in Landa John Cup final

PREMIERSHIP-bound Hwange FC will be hoping to end the Zifa Southern Region Division One League campaign with a trophy when they square off against ambitious Talen Vision in the Landa John Nkomo Memorial Cup final.

The final of the $5 000 Liquor Hub-sponsored tournament will be played tomorrow at Luveve Stadium, with a sizeable crowd expected to watch the final.

Winners of the cup will get $1 300, with the runners-up walking away $600 richer. ZPC Hwange, who were knocked out by Hwange, and Tsholotsho, who lost to Talen Vision, will each pocket $300.

On their way to the final, Hwange beat ZPC Hwange 3-1 courtesy of goals from Tendai Mate, Morestuff Ncube and Ted Ncube.

Talen Vision won the hotly contested clash against Tsholotsho 3-2, with former Highlanders and Bantu Rovers’ striker McCarthy Dube grabbing a hat trick for Talen Vision.

Mkhuphali Masuku, the Talen Vision coach, said his team is ready for the coalminers and they are expecting a tough game against the Southern Region league champions.

“It’s going to be a tight game. Hwange are a good team and facing champions we need to be at our best. We’re ready for the game. We’ll still use the team that played last week and give these fringe players a chance to finish what they started,” said Masuku.

Just like Talen Vision, Hwange are using fringe players in the tournament and last weekend Craven Banda was the only regular starter against ZPC Hwange.

The coalminers are likely to field veteran striker, Gilbert Zulu.

Zulu will receive his October/November Nokel Security Top Goal Scorer of the Month before kick-off.

The veteran forward has 21 league goals, six of which he scored in October and November. — @ZililoR
