Hwange teams in D1 title race

THE Zifa Southern Region Division One title race is turning out to be a battle of the Hwange teams after Hwange Football Club as well as ZPC Hwange won their matches in the coal mining town yesterday.

James Chivasa and Ernest Gwitima were on target for Hwange FC as they saw off Ratanang 2-0 at the Colliery Stadium while at Ingagula, Admire Banda scored the only goal for ZPC Hwange to see off Arenel 1-0.

With eight matches to go before the end of the season, Hwange are still on top of the log with 66 points while ZPC Hwange are second with 61. Arenel, who had given Hwange a torrid time are falling off the race as they remained on 57 points, nine behind the log leaders and four off second spot.

Talen Vision, occupants of fourth place hammered CIWU 3-1 at Mthwakazi Stadium in Filabusi, Mainline thumped Indlovu Iyanyathela 3-0, Makhandeni Pirates were 2-1 victorious against Mosi Rovers, Binga Pirates edged Mountain Climbers 1-0 and Casymn were 2-0 victorious over Quality Foods.

Meanwhile, in the Zifa Central region, it is all to play for in the concluding matches of the season on Saturday. Heading into the final round of fixtures, Sheasham, who travel to Zvishavane to face Loss Control have a three point advantage while fellow title aspirants are at home to Vumbachikwe.

The matches were meant to be played yesterday but had to be postponed to allow Chapungu and Tongogara to play their catch up fixtures since they did not play last weekend as they had some of their players in the Zimbabwe Defence Forces team which played against Botswana as part of the Defence Forces Day festivities at the National Sports Stadium last Tuesday.
