Police in Mashonaland East have arrested two men from Hwedza and Marondera for allegedly raping their biological daughters.
The Hwedza man (46) was arrested for allegedly raping his 13-year-old daughter once, while the Marondera man (50) reportedly raped his daughter, aged 14, several times ,threatening to kill her if she revealed the abuse to anyone.
In the Hwedza case, allegations are that last year, the girl was left in the custody of her father together with her two siblings aged 11 and four. It is alleged that during the night, the girl’s father ordered his children to sleep in his bedroom with him since his wife (39) was not around.
Allegations are that during the night, the man discovered that the children were fast asleep and quickly sneaked into the blankets of his 13-year-old daughter and ordered her to remove her clothes before raping her.
Reports are that the daughter did not reveal the incident to anyone. However, the matter came to light through a tip-off written and posted in the police suggestion box, prompting police in Hwedza to institute investigations and interview the girl. The girl opened up to the police during the interview and confirmed her father raped her and the man was arrested.
In the Marondera case, it is alleged that early this year in January, the man was staying with his daughter and they were sleeping in their only blanket.
It is alleged that the man raped his daughter on several occasions and threatened to kill her if she revealed the matter.
The abuse came to light on May 18, when the man was caught in the act by a neighbour.
The neighbour took the girl to her house and interviewed her and she revealed that her father had been raping her countless times.
The neighbour then escorted the girl to the police to make a report on May 22, 2024, leading to the arrest of her father.
Police spokesperson for Mashonaland East Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi confirmed both incidents, saying investigations into the cases are ongoing.
“We urge parents not to trust anyone even a close relative. Parents should take measures to always protect their children at all costs. Investigations into these matters are ongoing,” he said.
