THE Japanese Embassy has partnered SOS Children’s Villages in constructing two modern blocks of classrooms at Vamba Primary School in Hwedza district, a development which is key in delivering quality education to learners.

The gesture has brought relief to learners and staff who have been using tobacco barns and an old farm house for lessons.

The Japanese Embassy availed about US$72 000 while SOS Children’s Villages contributed US$14 000 towards the project.

Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East Advocate Itayi Ndudzo officially commissioned the blocks and handed them over to Hwedza Rural District Council (RDC) on Tuesday.

The commissioning was attended by Japanese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Shinichi Yamanaka, officials from SOS Children’s Villages, Hwedza RDC, Government as well as members of the community.

Minister Ndudzo applauded the partnership.

“We gather here not just to celebrate a milestone, but to recognise the power of collaboration, the spirit of community, and the promise of a brighter future for our children,” he said.

“This remarkable infrastructure has been made possible through a generous gift from the people of Japan, alongside invaluable support from SOS Children’s Villages. Today, we celebrate not just bricks and mortar, but the foundation of a brighter future for our learners and our community.

“A conducive learning environment is essential for our children in Hwedza district to flourish. The classrooms here are going to serve as the heart of modern child development, we say our children thrive when learning in well-structured and well-equipped. In contrast, congested classrooms and inadequate sanitation facilities can stifle a child’s potential, hindering their educational journey. So today we are happy to witness this excellent milestone.”
