I am allergic to condoms: HIV+ man tells magistrate

Harare Bureau
AN HIV-positive Harare man is forcing his wife to have unprotected sex with him because he is allergic to condoms. The couple is HIV positive. Maxwell Jairos said condoms were not good for his health as they affected his manhood. His wife, Esther Chingondo, approached the Civil Court yesterday seeking a protection order against her husband whom she also accused of verbal abuse.

“He forces me to have unprotected sex with him every time despite the warning we were given by medical practitioners that we should always have protected sex.
“Whenever I refuse to have unprotected sex with him he takes a scissors and cuts my undergarment and forces me to sleep with him,” alleged Chingondo.

“He does not drink his tablets saying they affect his skin and he also denies me a chance to drink mine. Sometimes if I refuse to sleep with him he starts assaulting me and the children and insulting us with obscene words,” she said.

Jairos, who is not denying the charges, admitted that condoms were not good for his health.
“I am allergic to condoms because they affect my manhood and that is why I resorted to unprotected sex,” he said.

The magistrate Gamuchirai Siwardi granted Chingondo the protection order and barred Jairos from physically, sexually or verbally abusing her.
