A HARARE woman celebrated in court when the magistrate granted a protection order, against her husband, for abuse.

Mercy Kamuzunguze applied for the protection order against Farai Nel saying she could no longer stand his daily abuse each time he was drunk.

“He comes home drunk and beats me up, insults me calling me a prostitute, in front of the children, and neighbours.

“Whenever he drinks tumbwa, he beats me up.

“Last time l retaliated and we fought for over two hours, and l reported him to the police.

“He had returned home after two days.”

Farai did not deny the allegations against him.

But, he sought to lay the blame on his daily dosage of alcohol for his violent behaviour.

“This happens every time I get drunk.

“But, later on, l sat down with her and asked for forgiveness and promised not to do it again.

“I love my wife, but l can’t help it, l blame tumbwa for making me do all this to her.’’

Magistrate Rutendo Machingura granted the protection order.
