A BULAWAYO man told his wife that he cannot live without girlfriends after she saw numerous whatsApp messages on his cellphone from other women professing their love for him. This came to light when Fiona Charles dragged Bekithemba Phiri to the maintenance court demanding $290 for the upkeep of their two minor children.
Charles told the court that Phiri confessed his wayward ways after she saw the messages.
“I have seen many whatsApp messages between him and his girlfriends. When I asked him about the messages he had the audacity to tell me that he is a man and cannot live without girlfriends. He comes home drunk every night yet his children go to school in torn shoes”, she said.
Phiri did not offer any defence but instead wondered why he was in court.
“We live under the same roof with this woman and I don’t know what I am doing here. She gave me court summons this morning telling me I have to come to court. As far as the messages are concerned, if you look for a monkey up a tree then you will find it,” he said.
Magistrate Victor Mpofu castigated Phiri for failing in his responsibilities as a father, saying he did not expect such utterances from a family man.
“You and your wife are not separated yet you want to live like a bachelor in your matrimonial home,” Mpofu said before ordering Phiri to pay $150 monthly to maintain his children.
