‘I don’t own a conservancy’

the people “making a killing” from conservancies taken from former commercial white farmers.

Dr Utete was named among some Cabinet ministers and top Zanu-PF officials accused of grabbing conservancies, according to a WikiLeaks report published in the Financial Gazette. He was reported to have taken over part of Gwaai Conservancy.

Dr Utete said he did not own such kind of land neither did he apply for an operating licence. He said the report was false and that before the US embassy official supplied that information, they should have checked the facts. “Whoever supplied that information to WikiLeaks lied. He or she is a liar.

“I have not applied for any licence to operate a conservancy. I have never been involved in the operation of a conservancy and I am not even associated with any company operating a conservancy in this country.
“The report alleges I have interests in the Gwaai Conservancy. There is no basis for that claim. The US Embassy was supposed to verify facts before sending the information for the compilation of the report,” he said.
