adminLOS ANGELES. — It was the question on everyone’s lips on Tuesday night — whether Simon Cowell would be bold enough to show his face at the One Direction movie première. And being the bolshy music mogul that he is, Cowell, of course, did turn up to the “This Is Us” screening in Leicester Square amid his current love-child scandal.
The 53-year-old took a break from his current luxury yacht break in the Mediterranean to support his former “X Factor” stars as they launch their film.
In fact, he didn’t only show up to the red carpet event, but he also made light of the fact he is to become a father for the first time with his friend Andrew Silverman’s wife.
As he arrived at the première, he joked about his pride at how far Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Niall Horan had come.
He said: “This is like a dream come true . . . I feel like a father.” To which the host jested back: “We won’t go there!’’
And if that wasn’t enough, his exes Mezhgan Hussainy and Sinitta joined him at the première, while his pregnant lover Lauren is currently at home in New York.
Cowell even happily talked about the baby news for the first time, admitting he’s ecstatic to be welcoming a tot into the world and praising Lauren as “special”.
He told the BBC that he was “proud’’, adding: “Things are changing in my life right now, for the better. I’m proud to be a dad. It’s something I hadn’t thought of before, but now I know I feel good about it.’’
The “X Factor” boss added: “She (Lauren)’s a very special girl.’’
Cowell followed closely behind the boys as they were greeted by scores of screams from fans who had camped out in the area for a prime red carpet spot ahead of the screening.
Cowell addressed the crowds and said: “I always dreamt when I was kid one day I could produce a movie so this is fantastic.
“It’s the first one and hopefully won’t be the last, I wasn’t the only producer, there were lots of people involved and the band produced the movie as well. It was an incredible experience.
“Anyone who wants to know what it’s like to be in a band needs to watch this movie.’’
He ended by saying: “I’d like to say a special thank you to the fans without you we wouldn’t be here.’’
Dozens of Directioners, as the group’s fans are known, who camped out overnight have been joined by masses more from around the UK, with some singing the band’s hits and others wearing masks of the lads.
The five-piece appeared on the red carpet before their film, One Direction: “This Is Us”, was screened in London.
The film has been made by “Super Size Me” director Morgan Spurlock and follows their life on the road during their rise to worldwide fame. — Dailymail.
