adminCAPS United new acquisition, Godknows Murwira, says he felt the love after being showered with money by the club’s fans on his debut for the Green Machine on Sunday.
Makepekepe won their opening fixture of the Castle Lager Premiership after getting the better of Manica Diamonds 2-0 at the National Sports Stadium.
Murwira, who crossed the floor from bitter rivals Dynamos, was part of the team’s defensive unit, which claimed a clean sheet.
The defender was at his best, making his trademark diagonal passes to the delight of his new fans.
His brilliance did not go unnoticed as he was showered with money by a sizable group of CAPS United’s fans. The former FC Platinum and Ngezi Platinum Star’s man almost broke into tears as he moved away from the scene.
“I was really moved by the reception from the fans, it’s something which I wasn’t expecting,” said Murwira.
“It was a dream debut for me because I was training very hard for this moment and I felt like I have been at the team for seasons.
“I’m happy that we managed to win our first game, which was important for us in our quest to make the fans happy.”
Murirwa said their spirited fight against the Gem Boys was inspired by the backing they got from their fans.
He emphasised the importance of keeping clean sheets.
“Chances of a team, which is capable of keeping clean sheets, to win games are always high.
“That’s the area which I think we need to tighten up if we are hoping for a better season.
“But, I was impressed with our overall performance as a team.”
He added. “We didn’t win that game because of our tactical approach but it was our fans who gave us the drive to push for maximum points.
“I’m appealing to our fans to continue being supportive and, as an individual, I’m going to try my best to honour those who took me here.”
