adminCape Town — Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande has revealed that he was more than willing to take a spot-kick in his side’s penalty shootout victory over Orlando Pirates in the Telkom Knockout semi-finals.
The Zimbabwe international calmly converted from the spot and insists he could not sit by idly and leave the duty to his team-mates.
He felt he had to “take responsibility” on the day to ensure his destiny remained in his own hands.
“I’m not afraid of responsibility. I love to be in charge and that’s why I took one of the penalties when we beat Pirates,” Katsande told Goal website.
“It feels good to see that you have been able to help your team.
“It was important that I take the responsibility in the game against Pirates and make sure we qualify for the finals of the Telkom Knockout.
He added: “I think I did my job as the coach instructed me. I played just in front of the defenders which made it very hard for their strikers to penetrate. That was taking responsibility and the job for the team was done.”
Chiefs return to action on 21 November when they travel to Pietermaritzburg to face bottom-of-the-table Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium. — Sport24
