EVERYDAY a star is born.
And at the Bulawayo Arts Awards, Anita Moyo (20) was born. Shea��s the young woman who walked away withA� the Outstanding Actress Award for Schools held last Friday at the Large City Hall.
The Eveline Girls High School actress who became an actress by chance interestingly won the award that was presented by her father a�� Nkosana Mlibazi a�� a choral musician.
a�?I didna��t know what to say when I was announced as the winner. I joined a drama club at Nketa High School when I was in Form One with an ambition to enhance my poetry skills only to fall in love with acting. Now I have an award,a�? said Anita.
Apart from the schools drama scene, the actress who grew up in Nkulumane suburb has also turned professional mentored by the arts practitioner Raisedon Baya at the Centre for Talent Development (CTD).
a�?Besides acting at school Ia��m a member of CTD. Thata��s where I gained my acting experience under the mentorship of Baya. I have so far featured in some literature theatre works like Impilo Yinkinga as Khotso, No More Plastic Balls and The Sun Will Rise Again as Thabitha,a�? she said.
Her high school drama patron Thabani Moyo walked away with the Outstanding Arts Educator Award. Like his student he shares the joy.
a�?I am proud of Anita, she deserved it. If she keeps up the good work it will not be a surprise that she becomes a great theatre actress at professional level,a�? Moyo said.
After finishing her A-level studies this year she intends to enrol for a theatre degree programme because she believes acting is her calling.
a�?Ita��s the path I have chosen in my life,a�? she said.
The BAA is not the only accolade on her display, she also boasts of the Intwasa Best Outstanding Actress and Isiphiwo Sami Best Outstanding Actress awards won last year. .
