A HARARE woman has confessed that she used to eke out a living as a sex worker.
Maggie Dudu said she had no option, but to engage in sex work, to try and make ends meet.
She opened up at the Harare Civil Court, in an application for a protection order, against her son, Terrence Derenyika.
“Things were once tough when I opted to indulge in prostitution, but I have since quit.
“Our uncle then asked me to return home and stay with my son Terrence.
“Terrence accepted and we had no beef then,” she said.
Maggie said their fallout started when, all of a sudden, he turned violent.
“He accused me of having an affair with my same uncle who gave us shelter.
“He beats me up and damages my property. He also threatens to kill me and accuses me of being a witch.
“He doesn’t respect me as his mother,” she said.
In response, Terrence admitted to the allegations.
“I admit that I insulted her and broke some windowpanes.
“I was angry because she once abandoned us to do sex work.
“She once burnt down the house we occupied before eloping with another man a decade ago.
“She is a cruel woman who should pay for her sins,” Terrence said.
Magistrate Rutendo Machingura, who presided over the matter, granted the protection order in Maggie’s favour.
Terrence was barred from visiting where his mother stays.
