PHILLIP CHIYANGWA has no mercy.
One minute he was saying Jonathan Mashingaidze will be the Zifa chief executive for as long as PC was the boss.
The next minute Papa was jobless and yet Chiyangwa was still the boss.
Is there a wrong way of doing a good thing?
Look we all agree that getting rid of Papa was a decision long overdue.
However, the manner in which PC gave the guy hope when he knew very well that he will soon be jettisoned makes me feel sorry for Mashingaidze.
But the former Zifa chief executive looks as if he is slowly getting used to the idea of being jobless, drawing strength from the heavens.
“Keep your head up God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers,” reads one of the several inspirational messages on Mashingaidze’s Whatsapp profile picture.
Mash’s demise was greeted with applause from most quarters but the largest applause must have come from the hugely polarised sports journalists.
It looks like there was a cold war between Mash and some members, if not most members, of the Fourth Estate.
These scribes view his departure from 53 Livingstone Avenue as some sort victory.
But this does not mean every journalist is smiling there are some – the ones that Mashingaidze always gave comments to, the one he facilitated foreign trips for – who are silently mourning their hearts out.
You find me in the dark corner housing the bereaved.
For Va Shagare the recently fired Mashingaidze was a gift sent from heaven, a gift that kept on giving.
Mash always provided so much for this column to chew into because he was a walking disaster, everything he touched turned into dust.
Mashingaidze was also a big fan of mine.
He once told a press conference at Cuthbert Dube’s house that he followed this column religiously and was itching to meet Va Shagare to discuss matters of mutual interest.
With the way he stammers discussing anything with Mash would need a whole day and I am yet to have free day.
But Mash is not alone Norman Mapeza, Farai Jere and thousands of people, who call themselves directors and legends among other ludicrous titles on Freddy Pasuwa Mugadza’s Facebook group, also share the same wish.
Good luck macomrades!
Meanwhile, with Mashingaidze gone I hope the Zifa spokesman Xolisani Gwesela comes out for the good man he is.
Mash had a way of making Xoli look silly.
On numerous occasions Gwesela was made to issue idiotic statements by his then boss.
On some nightmarish Monday evening the Zifa spokesman was left at the mercy of Charles Mabika and Robson Sharuko on the ZTV programme Game Plan.
At the peak, or bottom, of Dube’s miserable reign Gwesela attempted to defend the establishment but the more he tried to excuse the inexcusable on national television was the more he looked stupid.
Xoli must be praying for a sharper and more eloquent boss as Zifa are in the process of hunting for a new chief executive officer.
And I have ideas on this one.
How about having Kenny Ndebele as the Zifa chief executive?
He is not the most presentable chap but when it comes to the administration of the game one is hard pressed to find a better individual.
Or we could just have Twine Phiri in that post for humanitarian grounds because the guy is in real trouble if those figures being mentioned in the maintenance arrears case are anything to go by.
Occasionally I see Chris Sambo with his dyed hair walking in the streets of Harare.
His shoes need rest, they have seen better days,
Sambo could be a candidate on both merit and humanitarian grounds.
