THE International Cricket Council (ICC) released funds for the payment of monies owed to Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) staff and players, including the players’ match fees.
ZC announced yesterday the ICC had confirmed the release of the funds and it is part of initial funds that will be given to ZC under a controlled funding payment plan.
In a news release, ZC said full details of the controlled funding are still to be completed.
“ZC and the ICC are working together to ensure ZC meets the conditions of the ICC-controlled spending process so that the monthly cash distributions from the ICC can be finalised.
“Payment plan proposals will be discussed and communicated to all outstanding creditors once this process has been concluded.
“This brings welcome relief to the current staff and players and is the first step in the recovery process of cricket in Zimbabwe to its former health and strength,” read the statement.
Zimbabwe was humiliated by Pakistan in a one sided one-day series 5-0 that was held at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo last week after several cricketers refused to avail themselves for selection citing failure by ZC to pay them their dues.
ZC released a statement on Tuesday revealing they were unable to fulfil the commitment to pay staff and players all monies owed to them on the following day.
