ICC punishes England’s Curran after Bavuma send-off

ENGLISH all-rounder, Sam Curran, was on Tuesday fined 15 percent of his match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his send-off of Proteas captain Temba Bavuma during the second ODI in Bloemfontein.

Curran removed Bavuma, who played the ball onto his stumps shortly after going to a well-played century.

Curran was found guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to using any language, action or gesture towards a batter upon their dismissal which has the potential to provoke an aggressive reaction from the dismissed batter. He also received one demerit point.

The incident occurred in the 28th over of the Proteas’ chase, with the Curran celebrating close to Bavuma following the dismissal.

According to an ICC statement, Curran admitted the offence and accepted the sanction.

The Proteas won the game by five wickets, chasing down England’s 342 to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

South Africa lost the third and final ODI in Kimberley on Wednesday. News24.com.
