ICT Minister launches computer labs in Masvingo

The Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Jenfan Muswere, launched computer laboratories in Masvingo province to assist students and communities to access information.

The Minister said the labs are meant to assist students and communities access information and he will ensure that they are put to good use.

Among the schools toured are Mshawasha West Secondary, Bere High, Magombedze Secondary, Chirichoga High and Mushadike Secondary.

Speaking at Mushandike Secondary computer lab, the Minister said this is a way of creating equal opportunities for all.

“This is a way of developing the country in terms of the ICT Policy that ensures that no one and no place is left behind. We are aiming to bridge the urban-rural divide, making sure that every citizen is digitally empowered by the year 2030.

“Every community should have an opportunity of benefiting through the POTRAZ Universal Service Fund programme,” he said.

Minister Muswere said this will transform the macro-economic landscape of the country.

“People in Masvingo engage in agricultural activities, and there is a need to utilise the internet.

“Under the smart agriculture pillar, computers are used for crop management, cattle management and other poultry schemes.

“This enhances digital capacitation in terms of ensuring that all learners have the power to use digital equipment in accessing information. This will go a long way in mitigating challenges caused by climate change,” he said.
