Electronic governance has to be prioritised in all institutions to ensure there is adequate service delivery to achieve key aspects of the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim-Asset), Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet Dr Ray Ndhlukula has said.
He said this on Friday at a cocktail party hosted by the Document Support Centre for communication technology experts from Lenovo, UBM, Dell, and Xerox among others.
“We have ambitions as far as governance is concerned. We need to ensure there is efficient service delivery through ICT systems that enable us to achieve national goals.
“We like to continue and pursue the relationship with the corporate sector such that ICTs transform lives of people in rural areas.
Zim-Asset focuses on introducing ICTs in all Government systems specifically in the aspect of intra-Government,” he said.
DSC manager Mr George Chimhini said they would continue assisting Government with e-learning materials for the betterment of rural schools.
“Since we are moving with times it is important we provide and assist Government with technical know-how.
“We managed to set up a community information centre in Murombedzi where we want communities to access ICTs at a nominal fee, and computer laboratories at eight different rural schools including Chogugudza and Parirehwa secondary schools in Domboshava.
“The country will develop more in the event corporate organisations involved information technology do more to assist impoverished rural schools.
“That will help nurture current and future generations,” he said.
Lenovo Sadc solutions manager Mr Julian Pienaar said they would provide software to assist farmers and students in rural communities.
