British actor Idris Elba was inspired to document his journey during his stay in South Africa while acting in the acclaimed movie Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
This resulted in an hour-long documentary titled Idris Elba: Mandela, My Dad and Me.
The documentary expected to air on the History Channel (DStv channel 186) later in the year, follows Elba on a journey of self-discovery.
Idris Elba: Mandela, My Dad and Me captures the inspiring story behind the creation of Mi Mandela, an album of music recorded by the actor in tribute to Mandela and to his own beloved father, who died last year.
The actor said although difficult at times, his documentary was a fulfilling project.
“History offers the perfect platform to share this story. I hope viewers enjoy following my journey while producing my album Mi Mandela, which is a tribute to my father and to Mandela, one of Africa and the world’s most inspirational icons.”
Award-winning film director and producer Daniel Vernon directed the documentary which was produced by Green Door Pictures, Shine North, Woodcut Media and Bob and Co. — DailySun.
