IFK tourney targets beginners

THE IFK kyokushinkai karate held their inaugural Novice Cup tournament last Saturday in Mbare in an effort to encourage up-and-coming karatekas to participate in competitive events.

The tournament was targeting beginners and attracted fighters from different styles including so-kyokushin, kyokushinkai, shukokai and shorin-ryu.

They also had participants from kick-boxing and taekwondo taking part.

The event had fighters competing in the senior men Open weight category and middleweight division while boys battled it out in the Under-50kg and lightweight categories.

There was also an Open weight division for women.

IFK, who were the hosts, dominated the men’s Open weight division with Takudzwa Chisoni coming first.

He was followed by Amos Marumisa in second position and Daniel Kwaramba was third.

The middleweight title was won by Washington Mudyiwa from so-kyokushin style.

In the boys’ Under-50kg section, the title went to Takudzwa Matambo while Timothy Dumwa claimed the title in the lightweight division.

Kimberly Chizano emerged the winner in the women’s section
