TRAGEDY struck in Ilanda when a night-time crash claimed the life of Dumisani Zhangare and left two others injured.
The fatal accident occurred around 8PM on 1 August 2025 along 12th Avenue Extension and Sherwood Drive, turning the quiet Bulawayo suburb into a scene of twisted metal and flashing sirens.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident and named the deceased.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 1 August 2025 at around 2000 hours in Ilanda, Bulawayo. Dumisani Zhangare, a male adult, was killed and two others were injured,” said Insp Msebele.
A 40-year-old man from Ilanda was driving a Mercedes Benz heading north with one passenger on board when tragedy struck. An Isuzu DMAX, driven by a 37-year-old man from Burna Vista, suddenly turned right into oncoming traffic and was hit hard on the side.
The impact sent the vehicle spinning and it landed on the left side of the road.
“One passenger died on the spot. The two drivers sustained varying injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment. The deceased’s body was taken to the mortuary for a post-mortem,” added Insp Msebele.
Police investigations are ongoing.
