HARARE Sports club scrumhalf Steven Hunduza says is optimistic he will make the Cheetahs squad for the IRB World Series tournament set for South Africa next month. Hunduza is currently taking part in the Zimbabwe domestic sevens’ series which is expected to conclude tomorrow at Harare Sports Club.
The first leg of the series was held last week with Northern and Southern sides clashing in round robin matches.
The opening matches of the leg saw Northern Regio clubs competing in Harare while the Southern Region clubs meeting at Hartsfield.
Hunduza says he wants to do well in tomorrow’s event.
“Making it into the Cheetahs team will require a lot of work but I hope that I will make it,” said Hunduza.
“Last week we did not perform well. Most of the players were exhausted because they were coming from the Tri-Nationals.
“I believe that really affected our performance, so all we are hoping for is to do well.”
At Hartsfield, Western Panthers, who had an impressive win over Matabeleland Warriors in the semi-final before another victory over Zvishavane Bulls in the final, are expected to play against Harare teams.
Old Hararians flyhalf, Tichafara Makwanya, said they were working on improving in many areas of their game.
Last week Old Hararians lost in the semi-final against Sports Club.
“Old Hararians have been playing mostly the 15s than Sevens rugby and we now have to do well this week if we have to be victorious.
“We need to adjust, ” said Makwanya.
Meanwhile, the women teams, who did not play last week will have their first leg matches tomorrow.
