BULAWAYO – A Sauerstown man has landed himself in court after allegedly threatening to kill his police officer wife and their kids, in a chilling domestic violence storm that’s left the family gripped with fear.
Tavakada Mbondiah (41) appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Eva Matura facing a string of domestic abuse charges, including death threats and assault. The matter was postponed to Friday for continuation.

The drama unfolded after his wife, Anna Sibanda (39) — a serving cop — reported him for years of abuse that have left her battling severe depression.
Prosecutor Samuel Mpofu told the court the latest horror erupted on Sunday, April 6, after a fight over a broken window spiraled out of control.

Mbondiah allegedly grilled one of their sons over the incident before lashing out, branding the boy “a burden” and physically assaulting him.
When Anna tried to step in, he turned on her, reportedly yelling:
“I’ll squash both your heads!”

The court also heard that Mbondiah mentally torments his wife, once forcing her to lie to a relative about mismanaging his money — a claim she denied under pressure.
Now fearing for her life and that of her children, Anna says the marriage has become a ticking time bomb:
“I’m mentally drained… I don’t know what he’ll do next.”
