A CONGOLESE woman last week stunned the court after she — ‘in desperation’ — offered money to a presiding Bulawayo magistrate hearing her case of unlawful entry into the country.
Katulusi Nzuzi (43) told Bulawayo magistrate Mr Tinashe Tashaya that; “ask us to pay you just like what we did with (Mutobo) Kalombo (45 her co-accused also from DRC) at the Beitbridge Border Post to get into Zimbabwe.”
The duo was last week convicted of unlawfully entering, or remaining in Zimbabwe without a permit, contrary to the law as defined in Section 29 (1) (b) read with Section 2 (a) of the Immigration Act chapter 4.02.
“Please papa I beg you, just ask me to pay you right now because I cannot afford to stay in this country.
“I am sick and I left my medication back at home in Congo,” she said.
“Papa it is not my fault that I unlawfully got in this country, actually I gave my passport to a girl who is working at the border there, but she did not stamp it and then she said I should pay her to proceed with my journey.”
The two were arrested on June 5, 2015 after police on routine duty intercepted a bus that was coming from South Africa.
Upon checking the identity particulars of the passengers, the detectives noticed that the passports of Nzuzi and Kalombo had not been stamped.
The two were fined US$50 or three months in jail if they fail to pay.
