Illegal miners threaten Gwanda State University Land

Online Reporter

The Portfolio Committee on Higher and Tertiary Education has raised concerns over the illegal occupation of Gwanda State University’s land by illegal miners.

This follows a visit to the institution by the committee.

During the visit, the committee toured the university’s livestock production and horticulture projects and commended the initiatives.

However, lawmakers expressed alarm over mining activities on land legally designated for academic and developmental use.

The committee stated that the encroachment endangers the university’s operations, threatens environmental sustainability, and hinders institutional growth.

It called for immediate intervention to safeguard the land and maintain a safe environment for education and research.
