Two women appeared before a Marondera court for allegedly siphoning power from the grid and prejudicing the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) of $180 in the process. Memory Chimondo (31) and Patricia Nyamombe (22), both from Dombotombo suburb, appeared before Marondera magistrate Mr Arnold Maburu and were remanded to May 15 on $30 bail each.

ZETDC Marondera was represented by Mr Fredrick Nhau in his capacity as the loss control officer.
Prosecutor Mr Courage Chakawa alleged that on an unknown date, but in February this year, Chimondo and Nyamombe knowingly and unlawfully used electricity freely after one of their co-tenants only known as Madzibaba Blessing obstructed and diverted ZETDC connections to a house they are renting.

It is alleged that after Madzibaba Blessing moved from the house, Chimondo and Nyamombe continued to use electricity for free.

The court heard that on April 23, ZETDC officials discovered the illegal connections and lodged a complaint with the police.
The two, however, failed to give satisfactory answers when they were questioned by police and were arrested as a result.
ZETDC says it was prejudiced of $200.
