A 60-year-old Honde Valley man died last week after excessively consuming an illicit brew.
Jethro Mukura’s body was discovered at Gatsi Secondary School in the morning after his night of binge drinking.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the death and said Mukura’s next of kin had been advised.
“Mukura, who stayed alone, left home for Bvuma Business Centre. On arrival at one of the bottle stores, he bought four bottles of a cane spirit and drunk them undiluted. He left the business centre at sunset.
“Godwin Mufori later saw a heavily drunk Mukura lying by the roadside at Gatsi Secondary School.
“Mufori tried to wake Mukura up so that he could go home, but he failed. Mufori then left Mukura there.
“The following day, Mufori saw Mukura lying unconscious on the same spot. He rushed him to a nearby clinic.
“They searched him and saw one bottle of the cane spirit,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
Mukura was pronounced dead at the clinic and no foul play is suspected.
