A HWANGE man landed himself in trouble when he caressed the breasts of his girlfriend’s 11-year-old daughter before telling her that she was better than her mother and he wanted to marry her instead. The man from Madumabisa Village was lucky to be slapped with a four-month jail term which was wholly suspended on condition that he performs 140 hours community service when he appeared before Hwange Provincial magistrate Mrs Portia Mhlanga on Friday.

He maintained his innocence during the trial, arguing that he was nowhere near the area saying he was being framed by his enemies before switching his defence, admitting to being at the house.

The court heard that on an unknown date but between 19 and 23 January the man proceeded to his girlfriend’s home in G-West squatter camp where he found her daughter sitting on the doorway.

When he inquired of her mother the Grade Five pupil informed him that she was alone as her mother had gone out.
After learning this, he told the complainant that he would be better off with her than her mother before caressing her breasts with a promise of marriage.

She stood up to avoid his moves but he followed her into the house resulting in her screaming for help, attracting the attention of neighbours who came to investigate before effecting a citizen’s arrest.
