I’m getting paid better in Zim than I was in SA — Urikhob

NAMIBIAN striker Sadney Urikhob — previously with South African Premier Soccer League side AmaZulu — has spent the past two years playing in Zimbabwe.

The vastly travelled striker Urikhob has disclosed that his earnings throughout his time playing in Zimbabwe have been better than what he earned playing in South Africa and back home in Namibia. Urikhob first joined former champions Dynamos on his arrival in the country.

The ex-Brave Warriors international then moved to Scottland last year, following the Mabvuku side’s promotion into the elite league.

Scottland, who made history by becoming the first team in the era of the Zimbabwean Premiership to win the championship have also quickly become  the new dominant force of the national game with their deep pockets enabling them to attract Knowledge Musona, Khama Billiat, Walter Musona, Terrence Dzvukamanja, Norman Mapeza (coach), and Peter Ndlovu (team manager).

So, how did Urikhob end up in Zimbabwe?

“I had been in Thailand but then had to come back home because of an injury. The club decided not to take the risk of renewing.

“So much then happened while I was back home, and I then got offers in Botswana and Zimbabwe and I chose Zim, joining Dynamos, where I won silverware,” says Urikhob.

Urikhob won the 2024 Chibuku Super Cup title with Dynamos. Having previously played in the Betway Premiership for AmaZulu, the subject of finances becomes of interest.

“You know what, even in Namibia, they were asking questions about why I came here but now there are more Namibian players coming here after me. “People can be so opinionated but you can earn good money here.

“I always tell my friends that your money is not in your country, so you have to travel.

“The money I have earned here is more than 20 times what I ever earned in Namibia. It is the truth . . . ” “What I have been getting here in Zimbabwe has been even slightly better than what I got at AmaZulu.

“So, I have been getting paid better here in Zim than I did in SA as well,” discloses Urikhob, while confirming that he is negotiating his next move. — kickoff.com
