‘I’m homeless and abandoned’

Former Sekhukhune United star Edwin Gyimah has revealed that he is now homeless, claiming that everyone has turned their back on him, especially his family in Ghana.

Gyimah has made well over 200 appearances in the South African top flight, having played for clubs including SuperSport United, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Orlando Pirates, Bidvest Wits, Black Leopards and Sekhukhune United.

The Ghanaian defender, now aged 35, has been without a club since leaving Babina.

However, Gyimah has now detailed how things have gone downhill since then.

Speaking in an interview with Ghanaian radio station Oyerepa FM, Gyimah said:

“During my career, I sacrificed everything for my family, especially my mother and siblings.

“But after my fallout with my agent, who spoke negatively about me publicly, everything changed,” an emotional Gyimah said.

He said all his relationships have collapsed, these include professional and personal ones.

“The industry has abandoned me. I received 21 contract offers within a year, yet none materialised. I turned to my family for support, even spiritually, but they ignored me. I feel completely neglected.”

The footballer who also played in midfield, said while plying his trade in South Africa, his sister asked him to transfer ownership of his house for GHS 25,000 (approximately R37,000).

“Later increasing it to GHS 50,000 (approximately R74,000). When I returned to Ghana, I found that my house had been taken over.

“Today, my wife, my children, and I have nowhere to stay—we are just moving from place to place.

“I am deeply embarrassed and broken. I believe I am under spiritual attack from my own family. I have suffered accidents, injuries and constant struggles. At this point, I don’t know what to do anymore.” —Kick Off
