A MARRIED man has gone into hiding after he allegedly raped a former classmate, who used to be his girlfriend, during their school days.
Anotenda Simbanegavi, 23, of Southerton, has not been seen since the day he is alleged to have allegedly raped his ex-girlfriend.
He is said to have offered the woman a lift to the Harare CBD, after picking her up at a bus stop.
During the journey, it is alleged that Simbanegavi tried to rekindle his relationship with his former lover. However, she turned him down.
Simbanegavi is then alleged to have driven to a bushy area, along the railway line near Lytton Road in Southerton, where he allegedly raped her.
The woman reported the matter at Southerton Police Station.
The case was recorded under RRB 6660332.
She was then taken to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital for a medical examination.
Speaking to H-Metro, the woman said their school relationship ended in 2020 and that they had never had sex.
“Simbanegavi ruined my life.
“We had ended our school-time relationship in 2020 and we had never engaged in sexual intercourse.
“He offered me a lift with the wrong motive and wanted to revive the relationship.
“I turned him down, and he raped me.”
Simbanegavi’s mother told H-Metro that her son had gone into hiding over the case.
“I was shocked to hear about the rape case facing my son from his wife.
“He had started supporting the family.”
Police could not be reached for comment.
Meanwhile, a Mbira group leader has been arrested for allegedly raping a teenage pregnant band member.
The 36-year-old was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the alleged rape of a 19-year-old pregnant band member, according to a family member.
Luckson Midzi, of the Phiri Gwenya and Vibrant Mbira group, which is based in Hopley, is accused of raping the woman in a parked vehicle near the Mbare Flyover.
A relative of the complainant told H-Metro that Midzi and the woman’s mother had allegedly agreed that he would pay her school fees and marry her after she finished school.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi could not be reached for comment.
However, H-Metro understands the case was reported at Kopje Police Station under reference number IR 101907/26.
“There is a big issue behind this case,” the relative said. The relative said that on October 8, Midzi called the woman’s mother and asked for the woman to accompany him to a show the following day.
The mother agreed.
At about 2pm on October 9, the woman met Midzi at his workplace, a shop at Gulf Complex in Harare, the relative said.
While she was waiting there, Midzi allegedly brought her a bottle of Cascade drink, which was open, and some chips.
At about 4pm, Midzi hired a taxi to take them from the Gulf Complex to Fidel Castro Road in the Harare CBD.
The relative said they then got into another vehicle, which the woman believes belonged to Midzi.
According to the relative, Midzi drove to an open space near Mbare Flyover and questioned the woman about why she married another man, instead of waiting for him.
She told him she married the other man because she had fallen pregnant with his child, the relative said. The woman then began to feel dizzy and fell asleep. Afterwards, Midzi allegedly gave her US$20 for bus fare.
She boarded a kombi and went home where she her husband about the incident, leading to Midzi’s arrest, the relative said.
