SOME residents of New Zengeza 4 are up in arms with two Councillors whom they claim were allocated residential stands at a site where the community borehole was located.

The residents claim the community borehole used to serve about 1,000 people.

The dispute escalated on Tuesday after a grader damaged pipes connected to the borehole, as part of the construction work at the site, leaving residents without water.

They have called for the stand allocations to be reconsidered and for the damaged pipes to be repaired.

“We are appealing to local authorities to consider people’s basic needs that include clean water, ablution facilities and refuse collection.

“How can the Town Council authorise the destruction of a borehole supplying water to more than 1,000 people?

“To make matters worse they allocated residential stands to Ward Councilors,” said one of the residents. Efforts to get comment from Chitungwiza Town Council were in vain.
