A 23-YEAR-OLD imbiber from Shurugwi died while admitted to Gweru Provincial Hospital after he was stabbed with a Colombian knife at a bottle store, following a misunderstanding over a Bluetooth speaker.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the death of Pardon Vengai of Marira Village, under Chief Banga in Shurugwi.

He said on Monday last week, at about 9.30 pm at Donga Bottle store, Shurugwi, Pardon was drinking beer with his brother and a friend.

“It is alleged that Pardon Vengai was drinking beer at Donga Bottle Store in the company of Prince Vengai and Tawanda Siziba both aged 25,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said the trio were listening to music from a Bluetooth speaker which was owned by the now deceased.

“It is said that one Tatenda popularly known as Boss Tate entered the bottle store and took away the speaker from the trio,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said Pardon followed Tatenda in a bid to recover his speaker.

“Tatenda drew out a Colombian knife and upon seeing this Pardon tried to run away but was caught by Tatenda who stabbed him once in the back,” he said.

Pardon, Insp Mahoko said, fell down bleeding and became unconscious.

“Police attended the scene, and took Pardon to Zvamabande Hospital where he was transferred to Shurugwi District Hospital. He was further transferred to Gweru Provincial Hospital where he died on Wednesday last week,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said the police are appealing to members of the public with information on the whereabouts of Tatenda also known as Boss Tate of Donga Stands, Shurugwi.
