Imbiber robbed, stripped then axed

Strip, rob and beat!

That is what happened to a drunk man from Inyathi who lost $150 to two robbers that waylaid him on his way home.

Auditor Menela (25) had been drinking at Sikhulu bottle store in the area when Evias Nyanda (28) and an unidentified friend intercepted him when he left the bottle store.

They picked a fight with Menela which resulted in him being axed, stripped down to underwearA� and in the process losing $150 to his assailants.

He was axed when he tried to fight back.

Only Nyanda was brought to book while his unidentified friend is on the run.

Nyanda appeared before magistrate at Inyathi circuit court Stephen Ndlovu facing robbery and assault charges.

Nyanda pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to 12 February for continuation of trial.

State prosecutor Lungisani Dube narrated the ordeal.

a�?Menela was walking alone to his homestead from a beer binge at around 10pm last Sunday. When he was about to reach his homestead in Matapa, he met Evias and his friend who were walking in the opposite direction. The pair asked for directions to Sikhulu bottle store, but when Menela was about to show them the directions, Evias and his accomplice who is on the run man-handled him and accused him of walking alone at night,a�? he said.
