A DARING thief stole fuel coupons, worth $20 million, at the Department of Immigration offices in Harare on Monday.

Immigration Officer Saineti Jokonia, 52, of Dema was reported to have left his office door locked, at their Herbert Chitepo building, when he ended his shift for the day.

Fuel coupons worth $19 827 560 were later stolen from his office.

Impeccable sources told H-Metro that Jokonia suspects the thief could have gained entry through the ceiling.

“He left the office at around 1630 hours and locked all doors and closed all windows.

“He left 5000 diesel coupons, 8000 petrol coupons and 1800 CMED coupons each valued at ZW$2679 in the cabinet.

“On Tuesday at around 0720 hours, an informant arrived at his work place and found that the screen door was damaged and the doors were locked.

“After unlocking the doors, the informant discovered that the above-mentioned coupons had been stolen.

“The robbers could have gained entry through the ceiling.

“The office is located on the 6th floor and the ceiling has got some holes,” said the source.

Police could not be reached for comment.

However, H-Metro is reliably informed that the case was reported at Harare Central Police Station under IR 050883/23.
