VARIOUS netball teams thronged Bulawayo’s White City Stadium for the Masiye Social Netball League Tournaments yesterday.
The one-day event saw teams from 22 wards battle it out in a round robin format to determine the most outstanding team of the day.
Action is set to continue next weekend in order to see which teams make it to the final according to the organisers of the tournament. The aim of the tournament is to educate the girl child about the dangers posed by HIV and Aids, provide them a platform develop their skills as well as keep them fit.
Giant telecommunications company Econet through their Sasai as well as EcoSure brands, Discoveries Adventure, among others chipped in with sponsorship.
Scouts from academies dotted around Bulawayo graced the occasion in search of talented players for further development. The Masiye Social Netball League has provided a springboard to talented players who have gone on to represent the country in international tournaments.
One of the players is Beauty Sithole who was part of the Gems who caused shock waves during the recently held Netball World Cup in Liverpool, England.
To spice up the day Panthers, a men’s netball club were invited, and they did not disappoint, showcasing breathtaking moves much to the joy of those watching.
