NAIROBI. – A Kenyan court has freed Football Kenya Federation(FKF) president Nick Mwendwa. The court, sitting in Kiambu, dismissed a case of Sh38m theft in which Mwendwa was implicated.
The case was filed against him by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji.
This now means Mwendwa can resume his role as Kenya Football Federation boss having stepped aside pending the outcome of the case.
Although Kenya had its international suspension lifted by FIFA, Mwendwa remained on the sidelines because of the pending case.
Mwendwa was charged at about the same time as Felton Kamambo and while the Kenyan’s case has been resolved, the former ZIFA boss’ case is still rumbling on.
Kiambu Senior Principal Magistrate Wilson Rading on Wednesday quashed the charges saying they are unfounded and unconstitutional.
Rading said the charges filed against Mwendwa resulted from a probe by a committee which were inconclusive.
The committee had been appointed by former Sports CabinetSecretary (CS) Dr Amina Mohammed.
The magistrate freed Mwendwa and directed that he should not beapprehended and charged based on the same findings of the probe team institutedby former Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ambassador Amina Mohammed. – kenyaonline.
