ZIMBABWE will next month host the inaugural national micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and cooperatives indaba as part of a renewed effort to unlock the full potential of the sector as the country angles for upper middle income society status by 2030.
The indaba will be held in Harare on July 16 and 17.
Running under the theme, “Towards Vision 2030: Building an Enabling Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Cooperatives Ecosystem,” the Indaba is expected to create a platform for dialogue on ways of fine-tuning the country’s MSMEs policy.
President Mnangagwa will grace the Indaba and is expected to articulate the Government’s position and interventions to add impetus to the MSMEs sector ahead of 2030.
Zimbabwe Chamber of SMEs national secretary Mr Kurauone Venancio hinted that preparations for the Indaba were now at an advanced stage.
Mr Venancio paid tribute to the Second Republic for introducing policies that allow the MSMEs sector to thrive and flourish, helping grow the country’s aggregate gross domestic product.
He said the MSMEs sector was the cornerstone of the country’s economy and a key driver of the nation’s march into an upper-middle-income society.
“The event will take place in Harare and will feature, among other things, plenary and technical presentations, business exhibitions,” he said.
“The indaba will be a platform for dialogue that we hope will help unlock the full potential of the MSMEs sector, especially in line with Vision 2030,” said Mr Venancio.
“The indaba will culminate in the holding of the National Presidential Awards ceremony that will also be graced by President Mnangagwa.”
Mr Venancio pointed out that the indaba was also a platform to celebrate innovation and empower local enterprises.
“We will be celebrating the role of MSMEs in growing the local economy while also discussing ways of strengthening the engines of economic growth that are driving Zimbabwe towards Vision 2030,” added Mr Kurauone.
