warning on Wednesday when he addressed a press conference to give an update on  developments in the local government sector.
“If any of my appointed councillors sleep on the job there would be movement,” he said.
The Minister has already axed two Chitungwiza special interest councillors Tichaona Chapfika and Brighton Chirongwe. He was responding to a question on when he was going to replace Harare special interest councillor Charles Nyachowe. The role of special interest councillors, he said, was to fill the skills gap that exists among elected councillors. Minister Chombo said he was happy with the crop of appointed councillors in office. The Minister, however, said if there were any reservations on their performance he was ready to pull them out.
“If I was asked to choose the best 11 councillors, I would definitely choose the special interest councillors,” he said.
He gave the example of Harare Mayor Muchadeyi Masunda whom he said was appointed by the MDC-T councillors to fill the skills gap among their ranks.
“They chose the best person to be mayor. I like the Mayor given to us. They chose from outside because none amongst them was suitable to lead.
“Mayor Masunda has done extremely well. I have no problem with him,” he said.
