Kadoma thief hands self over to police

after committing the crime, handed himself to the police in the company of his lawyer Mr Ignatius Murambatsvina of Murambatsvina and Associates on Monday.
He was still assisting police with investigations as they looked for his accomplice, Morris Dhewa, the former Barclays Bank chief cashier, who is believed to be in South Africa.
Sources close to the investigations yesterday said Marando handed                 himself over at Kadoma Police                 Station.
On February 27, 2010 Dhewa and Marando reportedly hatched a plan to steal money from the bank after work.
It is alleged Dhewa did not lock the vault after depositing cash.
He had part of the keys to the vault while his colleague one Itai Karimazondo who was the trade finance clerk had the other set.
Karimazondo’s duties included safeguarding the bank’s money, which was kept in a vault.
As co-custodian of the money, it means he kept one set of keys to the vault.
Dhewa kept the other set of keys.
Investigations carried out revealed that on the day of the theft, Karimazondo and Dhewa had opened the vault to deposit some money.
Karimazondo had handed over his keys to Dhewa since he was holding cash.
Dhewa opened the vault and closed after depositing the money but did not lock it.
Taking advantaged of the laxity of security Dhewa and Marando stole the money, which they stashed in a Honda Ballade.
The two shared the loot before dumping the vehicle and fleeing to          SA where they went on shopping sprees.
Nothing has so far been recovered.
