INCREASING cases of theft from parked vehicles at shopping centres has led motorists to request increased security measures.
Victims have called for tighter security at shopping centres and have requested that vendors be removed if they are seen tampering with vehicles.
Recent cases of theft include a man who lost items worth US$12 400 after he left his vehicle parked at Chisipite Shopping Centre.
Another lost US$720 which had been left in a parked car at Barclays Sports Club in Mt Pleasant.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, said they were investigating cases of theft from vehicles in various suburbs.
“One of the victims, Simon James De Swardt (41) of Greendale lost goods worth US$12 400 after leaving his vehicle parked at Chisipite Shopping Centre to buy groceries in Bon Marché Supermarket.
“He locked the doors and went into Bon Marché Supermarket and upon returning he found that the front passenger door was forced open and one Canon R5 camera, a 24-105mm lens, 85mm 12DS RF lens, Rode wireless GO microphones, 82mm filters, 5 LP6 ENM batteries, Sony 7506 headlines, one Axus vivo book laptop, five hard drives, one Ronin R53 and a bag with various clothing had been stolen.”
