THE Government has given its blessing to the upcoming Independence boxing jamboree at the City Sports Centre in Harare on April 11.

The tournament has been arranged by the Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board through Deltaforce Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts Academy.

The ZNBWCB had written to the Government seeking permission to use national emblems and symbols as a way of celebrating the country’s 46th Independence commemorations during the boxing fiesta.

The board confirmed to Zimpapers Sports Hub that the Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Ministry had responded acknowledging “receipt of your request seeking authorisation for the use of national emblems”.

Kadungure, who has helped transform boxing in the country said: “We are grateful to the Government for granting us permission to use national emblems in a tournament that we will be celebrating our Independence.

“We are humbled by the support that we always get from our Government. I can confirm that preparations for this tournament is going on very well.”

Deltaforce Boxing director Clyde Musonda, who is also the matchmaker for all the 10 bouts lined up on the day, said the excitement building towards the tournament was incredible.

“We have exciting match ups on the bout card,” said Musonda.

“The boxers are currently fine-tuning for this tournament.

“City Sports Centre is the place to be on April 11. It’s going to be lit.”

The main bout on the day will see Zvikomborero Chemhere battling it out against Marlon Chivero for the national Super-Flyweight title.

Former WBC super bantamweight gold champion Kuda Chiwandire makes a rebound after suffering a nasty leg injury while playing football last year.

She will face Patience Masitara in one of the most attractive face-offs in a night that will also see regional fighters descending on Harare.
